Computer Labs

The University of Maine at Augusta has several state-of-the-art computer labs available for student use as well as for classes and training. The Computer Services Department maintains 4 student computer labs on the Augusta campus and 5 on the Bangor Campus.

Augusta Campus

  • Room 253 Richard J. Randall Student Technology Center Classroom
    Room 253 of the Student Technology Center is a classroom computer lab. Using these computers requires a current Student ID number or a University email account. For more information, call 621-3253.

    The lab consists of:
    • 30 - Dell Optiplex GX 620 computers with 1.0 GB RAM, 80.0 GB HardDrive
    • 17" Flat Panel displays
    • HP laserjet printer
  • Room 255 Richard J. Randall Student Technology Center Classroom
    Room 255 of the Student Technology Center is a classroom computer lab. Using these computers requires a current Student ID number or a University email account. For more information, call 621-3253.

    The lab consists of:
    • 30 - HP dc7700 computers with 2 GB RAM, 80.0 GB HardDrive
    • 18" Flat Panel displays
    • HP laserjet printer
    • HP DesignJet 500 (Plotter)
  • Richard J. Randall Student Technology Center Student Lab
    The Student Technology Center Computer Lab is located in Room 127 of the Student Technology Center and is available for use only by currently registered students of The University of Maine System. Faculty and staff of The University of Maine System are also welcome to use the lab. Using these computers requires a current Student ID number or a University email account. For more information, please call the lab at 621-3253.

    The lab consists of:
    • 44 - Pentium IV 1.8 GHz computers
    • 19" Flat Panel diplays
    • DVD-RW drives
    • HP 4500 color printer
    • 2 HP laserjet printers
    • 2 HP Flatbed Scanners

  • Katz Library Computer Classroom
    The Katz Library Computer Classroom, located on the second floor of the Bennett D. Katz Library, is used exclusively for classes and training sessions only. Please call Carol Welch at 621-3040 for more information on lab availability and scheduling.

    The lab consists of:
    • 21 Pentium IV 2.4GHz computers 512MB RAM
    • 18" Flat Panel displays
    • 250MB zip drives
    • HP laserjet printer

    Hours:
    Scheduled classes and training sessions only.

Bangor Campus

The COMPUTER CLASSROOM is a 24-station pc teaching classroom located in the College Center room 119.  The classroom is designed to be an ergonomically correct, relaxed, quiet space for computer instruction.

The COMPUTER LAB is a 15-station pc lab located in Eastport Hall room 135a.  The lab is also designed to be an ergonomically correct, relaxed, quiet space in which to complete work.  During most hours, a lab attendant is available for assistance.  Printing is available to students through the Pay-For-Print program.

Hardware:

The COMPUTER CLASSROOM and COMPUTER LAB consist of Hewlett Packard (HP) computers and utilize current technology.  The SynchronEyes teaching aid is available for COMPUTER CLASSROOM instruction.

Software:

The University College of Bangor campus is equipped with state-of-the-art networking services.  Laptop user wireless access is available to all who have an active account within the University of Maine System.  Authorization to connect wirelessly can be done via a self-registration process.  The computers on campus are uniformly formatted and have the latest Microsoft products.  This enables students to use any computer available to complete their work.

Internet:

All computers on campus have Internet access.  For home use, students may obtain up to 100 hours a month of free dial-up Internet access.  The University of Maine System has purchased Symantec’s Antivirus product; this software may be installed on one home computer utilized for University purposes, providing you are a registered student, faculty member, or employee of the University of Maine System.  Access the Antivirus software at http://www2.umaine.edu/software/antivirus.html.  University students may access their individual university e-mail account anywhere Internet access is available at http://mail.maine.edu.  If you have any questions or need assistance on utilizing this program or questions regarding any computer services, contact a Lab Attendant at 262-7746.

Funding:

The Student Technology Fee funds the computer centers and labs.

The University College of Bangor has computers available for student use at:

EASTPORT HALL

Eastport Hall houses the Cornerstone Lab with (5) student use computers, the COMPUTER LAB with (15) student use computers and (1) activation station to activate your University account, and the Library with (5) student use computers for library reference data and information and (2) student/public use computers. Students can learn basic computer operation in the Cornerstone Lab and receive additional assistance during specific hours in the COMPUTER LAB.  Contact numbers for the above listed areas are:

BELFAST HALL

Belfast Hall has 5 computers in its writing lab. Staff are available on a flexible schedule to assist students in preparing and writing papers. These computers have Internet access, in addition to connections to the West Law Library and other campus software.  This enables Legal Technology students to complete much of their research on campus. Call 262-7753 for lab times.

LINCOLN HALL

Lincoln Hall houses the Dental Computer Lab.  Only the Dental Hygiene students should use these computers to access the popular Eaglesoft dental program.
